A little bit of old-school street sign influence...

The new site header is up. You might see these white signs still up in certain areas; here are some examples:

- Beacon St at the Brookline line at St. Mary's St (it still says "Boston LINE" on the top)
- Brookline Avenue at the Brookline line (ditto)
- Baker St at the Newton/Boston line
- Grove St at Dedham line (at Bussey St)
- Temple and Baker St

These white signs first appeared around the mid-60s to the late 1960s. They were taken down when the new green signs - some reflective, others not - arrived in the early 1970s.

I remember there being black signs with white lettering on many of the streets in my old Dorchester neighborhood. Gone from there for about 13 years now, so doubt they are still that way. Probably all replaced by the green.

Most likely they are, although there was one on Metropolitan Avenue in Roslindale that didn't get replaced until 2004. It was likely put up in the mid to late sixties, when they began replacing the blue metal signs.

Actually, if I'm not mistaken, there was a Boston street furniture store that had all the white signs you could want, for $20-30. I think that store is still defunct, but I can find out if it exists.
